President’s Message
April/May 2010

First of all, happy belated holidays!  Whether you celebrated Passover or Easter, I hope you have had a great time with your family and friends. I cannot believe the first quarter of 2010 came to an end but, listening to Sean Hennessey’s presentation month over month, we should feel good looking into the new future. RevPar seems to be going up and New York City, as a destination, is still a ‘hit’ for visitors from all around the world.

The HSMAI Greater New York Chapter won’t stop working on delivering you the right message at the right time through outstanding educational luncheons and seminars.

As I am writing this message, we are fine tuning our upcoming luncheon on Thursday, April 8th. ”Swimming the Channel: The Struggle and Strategy to Reach your Customer” is another interesting topic…and  please don’t forget our upcoming seminar at the USA Today Headquarters on “Sales Prospecting and Solicitation”. RSVP soon as tickets are selling fast. The date is Wednesday, April 28 from 5.30pm until 8pm. Refer to our website www.hasmainyc.org for rsvp and more information.

Also, I want to once again thank the entire Board of Directors for helping to create outstanding luncheons and seminars.  Because of all their hard work, our HSMAI Greater New York Chapter received the prestigious award as Chapter of the Year by HSMAI Headquarters. That is a phenomenal honor. This chapter simply could not run without all the members on the Board. So, once again, thank you for all your dedication to HSMAI and to our industry.

One thing I want to mention regarding your membership.  Please look up your expiration if you are not enrolled in automatic renewal and make sure to extend your membership for the following year. Without you, our valuable members, there would be no chapter!

And last, but certainly not least, do not forget to participate in our Social Media sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn – you will find, besides the information you see on our website, additional information and great articles that might help you in your day to day business.

I am looking forward to seeing you all during our upcoming luncheon and seminars, and please do not hesitate to contact either myself or any of our Board members if you have any suggestions to make our programs and your membership better and more valuable.

All the best,

Markus Boeker
Chapter President

The Greater New York Chapter of HSMAI has created an Unemployment Assistance Bailout Program to help those members who have recently lost their jobs and need to stay connected to HSMAI members at this crucial time in their careers.  These members will be able to attend up to three programs for free and pay 1/2 price for all other programs during the year as long if they continue to remain unemployed during 2009.  At the same time, ALL Greater New York Chapter members will be able to select from one of two FREE seminars ($35 value) to compensate for the recent dues increase which was approved by the HSMAI Americas Board. While all Greater New York Chapter members must pay their annual dues, 70% goes directly to HSMAI Americas Headquarters, which supports the membership with publications such as the Marketing Review, online research and information and a variety of educational programs and webinars. “It is the intention of the Greater New York Chapter Board of Directors to see that our membership, which happens to be the largest Chapter, stays connected, even if we have to support that with our very own bailout program,” said Markus Boeker of Orbitz, newly installed president of the Greater New York Chapter of HSMAI.
