HSMAI Greater NY Chapter Charities:
Hope Lodge and Ronald McDonald House

The Greater New York Chapter of HSMAI and it's members take pride in our work to support local charities. We raise funds by offering exciting raffle prizes, which are donated by our members and partners, at each lunch event. We also collect toys at an annual toy drive during our Winter Bash event.

We have decided to partner with two charities for 2009: Hope Lodge and The Ronald McDonald House. Both of these organizations provide a place for cancer patients and their families. One is focused on adults and the other on children. As we are a hospitality organization it seems fit to donate the money we make to organizations that are providing hospitality for those in need. Please read below for more information on each organization

Hope Lodge offers free, temporary housing for cancer patients and their families who are undergoing treatment. More than a place to stay, Hope Lodge is a home away from home, offering a comfortable and supportive environment for encouragement and healing. Getting emotional and social support from other survivors can be as important as getting the proper medical care. At the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, guests share similar experiences, and are supported by caring staff and volunteers. The nurturing, comfortable environment at Hope Lodge allows patients to focus on what is most important - fighting cancer.

The Ronald McDonald House provides temporary housing for pediatric cancer patients and their families. Here families find a strong, supportive and caring environment which encourages and nurtures the development of child-to-child and parent-to-parent support systems. Every day, children form friendships with other children and, through these bonds, regain a sense of control and experience the fun of childhood. Parents also gain strength and new understanding through the friendships they form with other parents who understand exactly how they feel.
