2008 HSMAI BIG APPLE CHAPTER AWARDS CRITERIA

This is your opportunity to recognize a hospitality professional or student who has consistently exhibited professional excellence in his or her chosen segment of hospitality. SPECIAL CONSIDERATION WILL BE GIVEN TO DOCUMENTATION OF A NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENT, ACCOMPLISHMENT OR RECOGNITION GAINED IN 2007 IN ONE OF THE FOLLOWING AWARD CATEGORIES:


• Sales Professional of the Year Award
• Hospitality Professional of the Year
• Marketing Executive of the Year Award
• Hotel General Manager of the Year Award
• Revenue Management Professional of the Year Award
• E-Marketing Professional of the Year
• Operations Excellence Award
• Hospitality Student of the Year Award

General Manager of the Year Award:

  • Consistently meets or exceeds operational goals and objectives to include but not be limited to financial results, sales and marketing objectives, and personnel development.
  • Consistently evidences unselfish commitment and progressive achievement within the hospitality industry.
  • Demonstrates the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
  • Recognized as both an outstanding industry and community leader.
  • Admired and respected by colleagues and associates for his/her professionalism and dedication.
  • Must currently be working as a general manager, managing director, chief executive officer, or similar position responsible for a single property or multi-property lodging business.
  • Must consistently support the HSMAI Big Apple Chapter.
  • Contributes to the overall advancement, promotion, and/or improvement of the hospitality industry and New York community.
  • Demonstrates the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
  • Displays leadership and motivational skills and acts as a role model within both the hospitality and greater New York community.

Hospitality Professional of the Year Award:

  • Contributes to the overall advancement, promotion, and/or improvement of the hospitality industry and New York community.
  • Demonstrates the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
  • Demonstrates leadership, motivates others and acts as a role model within both the hospitality and greater New York community.
  • Must consistently support the HSMAI Big Apple Chapter.

Sales Professional of the Year Award:

• Consistently meets or exceeds goals and objectives.
• Exhibits excellent problem-solving skills.
• Consistently exhibits professionalism in teambuilding and leadership qualities.
• Actively supports local hospitality sales efforts and those of the company for whichhe/she works.
• Demonstrates the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
• Upholds the highest levels of personal and professional integrity in conducting business.
• Must be a member of the HSMAI Big Apple Chapter.


Marketing Professional of the Year:

• Consistently meets or exceeds goals and objectives.
• Exhibits excellent problem-solving skills.
• Consistently exhibits professionalism in teambuilding and leadership qualities.
• Actively supports local hospitality sales efforts and those of the company for which he/she works.
• Demonstrates the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
• Upholds the highest levels of personal and professional integrity in conducting business.
• Must be a member of the HSMAI Big Apple Chapter.
Hotel General Manager of the Year:

E-Marketing Professional of the Year Award:

  • Actively supports local hospitality sales efforts and those of the company for which he/she works.
  • Demonstrates the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
  • Upholds the highest levels of personal and professional integrity in conducting business.
  • Must be a member of the HSMAI Big Apple Chapter.

Operations Excellence:

  • Consistently meets or exceeds operational goals and objectives to include but not be limited to financial results, sales and marketing objectives, and personnel development.
  • Consistently evidences unselfish commitment and progressive achievement within the hospitality industry.
  • Demonstrates the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
  • Recognized as both an outstanding industry and community leader.
  • Must currently be working in the tourism and hospitality industry, which includes hotels, restaurant, tour and travel, industry education, or other related segments.
  • Must consistently support the HSMAI Big Apple Chapter.
  • Displays leadership and motivational skills and acts as a role model within both the hospitality and greater New York community.

Revenue Management Professional of the Year Award:

  • Consistently meets or exceeds goals and objectives.
  • Exhibits excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Consistently exhibits professionalism in teambuilding and leadership qualities.
  • Actively supports local hospitality sales efforts and those of the company for which he/she works.
  • Demonstrates the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
  • Upholds the highest levels of personal and professional integrity in conducting business.
  • Must be a member of the HSMAI Big Apple Chapter.

Hospitality Student of the Year:

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited Hospitality Management program pursuing either an undergraduate or graduate degree.
  • Must show outstanding academic and leadership qualities, maintaining a 3.0 grade point average.
  • Contributes to the advancement of HMSAI Big Apple Chapter through student leadership and participation.
  • Must be a member of the HSMAI Big Apple Chapter.

* Nominations will be accepted through March 7, 2008. (Please note that current HSMAI Board Members and HSMAI Awards and Recognition Committee members are not eligible.)
* The designated Judges are the Executive Committee of the Big Apple HSMAI Chapter, the Executive Director and the Awards Committee members. Scoring will be made on a 5 point basis with 5 being the best score. The nominee with the highest accumulated total in each award category will be determined to be the winner of that category.
* The award winners will be announced at the May luncheon. The winners will be honored and awarded at the 2008 HSMAI Big Apple Chapter Frank W. Berkman Awards Dinner in June 2008.
* So, participate in helping us recognize and reward those individuals who have had such an impact on our lives and careers.

ANNOUNCES ANNUAL AWARD WINNERS

Eight Winners Across Industry To Share Stage with
Berkman Honoree Mayor Michael Bloomberg at June Gala Dinner 


NEW YORK (April 9, 2008) – Across a broad range of major hospitality brands, including Mandarin Oriental, Affinia Hotels, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, and Disney Vacations, among others, eight professionals emerged as recipients of the 2008 HSMAI Big Apple Chapter Annual Awards.


The HSMAI Big Apple Chapter Awards go to:

  • Hospitality Professional of the Year: Merrie Davis, President and Publisher, MVP, NY
  • Marketing Executive of the Year: John Moser, Chief Marketing Officer, Denihan Hospitality Group 
  • Sales Professional of the Year: Diana Voto, National Sales Director, Disney Resort Destinations
  • General Manager of the Year Award: Rudy Tauscher, General Manager, Mandarin Oriental, New York
  • Revenue Management Professional of the Year: Kerry Mack, Regional Vice President of Revenue Management, Highgate Hotels
  • E-Marketing Professional of the Year: Alex Zesch, Director, Interactive Marketing and Development, Affinia Hotels
  • Operations Excellence Award: Mike Stengel, Market Vice President and Area General Manager, Marriott International
  • Hospitality Student of the Year Award: Dominique N. Kun, New York University

In addition, HSMAI Big Apple Chapter President Brenda Fields, of Fields & Company, also announced this year’s recipient of the President’s Award: OPEN Hospitality, a leading provider of integrated web reservation and management solutions for independent and boutique hotels, including search engine optimization, email and internet marketing.  Accepting the President’s Award on June 10 will be David Millili, CEO, Brian Dass, President, Marion Hughes, VP Interactive Services and Brian Kotula, Director of Sales, who is a past President of the Big Apple Chapter.


The President’s Award is given by the Executive Committee of the Big Apple Chapter to a hospitality and tourism entity that exhibits sustained organizational excellence, leadership in both HSMAI and the New York community and success in their respective industry segment.


The Big Apple Chapter Annual Awards acknowledge those professionals who consistently exhibit extraordinary leadership and exemplify a love of the tourism and hospitality industry.  The winners will share the stage with The Honorable Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, who will receive special recognition as recipient of the Frank W. Berkman Tourism Achievement Award at the Chapter’s annual black-tie awards gala on June 10 at New York City’s famed Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Plaza. This award was inspired by industry visionary Frank W.  Berkman, a former Executive VP and COO of HSMAI, who is credited with establishing HSMAI as a highly influential international organization. 


“On behalf of the Big Apple Chapter, I am honored and excited to announce this remarkable slate of award winners who represent the best and brightest in New York’s thriving hospitality and tourism industry,” said Fields, in making the announcement today at the annual General Manager’s Roundtable, at Tavern on the Green, New York.
